Complaint Letter
To Ms. Redmond
From Christen Paige Campbell
May 20, 2009
Today in second block, I came in and John Mets (I’m not sure how to spell it, so I’m just guessing) came over and asked what I was up to. I had been warned by several people (Particularly Caleb Poulter and Sebastian Kearney) that I needed to stay away from him, and I had tried to listen to them and avoid him, but he had been coming over to me and I’m not very aggressive by nature. I said I was fine, and he tried to give me a hug. I give tons of people hugs, so I didn’t see too much harm in that. I sort of gave him a quick hug and backed off, but he was trying to hold me a little longer, so I sort of pushed away. I sat my stuff down, and he was still following me, which sort of made me uncomfortable. I went over to talk to some of my friends, and he still was following me, so I ignored him. I was standing up for a while, and he sat down and tried to get me to sit in his lap. I said no thanks, and he kept saying, “Come on and sit down, I want to be your chair.” And eventually, my friend, Kenneth Richardson, gave me his chair. After that, he tried to sit on my lap, so my other friend, Ramsay Mandeel, sat on my lap so he couldn’t. He sat on top of Ramsay, which kind of hurt me, since Ramsay is 180 lbs., John is kind of a big boy, too, and I only weigh 105 lbs. After that, he tried to sit next to me on the same chair. Thankfully, my other friend, Laura Kelly, called me over to where she was. I went over to her and she quietly told me that she thought I needed to stay away from him. I told her that I knew that and I was trying to, so she asked me to just stay sitting with her. I sat next to her and we talked for a while, but eventually, he came back over and asked me if I wanted my back rubbed. I politely declined, and he said something that really bothered me. He said “C’mon, take off your jacket and let me rub your back.” I said no a little more forcefully this time, and then he asked me to rub his back. I said “No, I only give back rubs to my family”. I continued talking to Laura some more, trying to ignore him, but he kept sitting there. When I ran out of things to say to him, I went over to my friend Spencer Young and sat with him while Ms. Fonza played a slideshow of all our pictures. He came over again and tried to get me to let him put his head in my lap, and I said no, but he kept trying three or four times before I had Spencer’s head in my lap while he slept. After class, he also tried to follow me to my locker, but I said, “I’m going to my locker now, you can go on to class.”
This isn’t the first time he’s bothered me, but it has been the most persistent and forceful time he’s tried to get me to hang out with him during class in a way that bothered me. Also, he’s not actually in that class for second block, but he come in their a lot. I don’t know if he’s skipping class or if he has a teacher’s permission, but either way, he doesn’t have Shelby Singers second block.
Thank you so much for letting me explain everything that happened.
