Preface:

I froze when I saw it. The name Abigail Hardee written in neat, loopy cursive on my window. The white glowed in the moonlight pouring through.
I felt my breathing speed up, and my hands began to shake. I was next. I was going to be next. But why me? What had I ever done? I was a nice girl, kept to myself. What could I have done to be the next one on that god awful list that showed up on the windows of town?
I sat down woodenly on the stairs. I ran my fingers through my hair, jerking it through the knots. My breath was coming in short gasps by now. This was it. I was going to die tonight.
